A Vivid Contrast
Text: John 10: 10
A VIVID CONTRAST
Jesus went on to offer a vivid contrast between Himself and the false teachers.
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10
1. “The thief ”
a. This is the same imagery noted in John 10:8.
b. Jesus noted that if the thief comes at all, he comes with evil intentions (The term, “the thief” includes the imagery of “the robber”).
i. The first intention is to steal.
ii. And if he cannot get what he wants easily, he is prepared to kill.
iii. And he is sometimes nasty and wicked enough to destroy (and he will do it without much feeling for the sheep he will destroy..
2. “Jesus”
a. He does the exact opposite.
b. He will not steal, kill or destroy.
c. He comes to give life to His sheep.
i. He will give them eternal life.
ii. He will protect them as a Good Shepherd.
iii. He will lead them to good pasture land.
iv. He will be personally acquainted with His sheep.
v. He will know each sheep by name.
3. “And that they may have it more abundantly”
a. It is normal to desire life eternal.
b. It is natural to desire “abundance” too (the opposite of starvation).
c. Those who come to Jesus will indeed have life.
i. Forgiven
ii. Restored
iii. Revived
d. And he will also experience abundant blessing of grace, mercy and love from God.

真切的对比
接着,耶稣献上了祂与假师傅之间真切的对比。
“盗贼来,无非要偷窃、杀害、毁坏;我来了,是要叫羊得生命,并且得的更丰盛。”
