A Budding Theologian
Text: John 9: 31-33
A BUDDING THEOLOGIAN
The former blind man showed acute intelligence when he articulated his faith and loyalty to Jesus. It was natural and correct not to deny the One who had given him sight!
“Now we know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God and does His will, He hears him. Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”
John 9:31-33
1. Basic and simple knowledge of God indicated (Simple logic)
a. God does not hear sinners.
b. But God hears
i. A worshipper.
ii. One who does His will.
c. If God hears the prayer of Jesus for power to heal
i. Then He must be a true worshipper of God.
ii. And the power He wields is in fact a sign that God approves of Him.
d. The former blind man did not have a whole lot of knowledge about Jesus.
i. He did not know that Jesus was not just a worshipper.
ii. Nor that God does more than just hear His prayers.
2. Second line of reasoning concerning blindness
a. His knowledge would have been garnered over the years.
b. Possible ways:
i. His parents seeking medical help.
ii. Medical consultations.
c. The obvious conclusion:
i. Since the world began till this moment,
ii. No one has heard of a man who was born blind receiving his sight.
d. The obvious conclusion: Jesus was a Man who came from God, or He could not have performed this miracle of restoring sight so perfectly.
