The Blind Man Healed
Text: John 9: 8-12
THE BLIND MAN HEALED
The blind man had never received such attention all his life. His neighbours suddenly noted that he had been healed.
“Therefore the neighbours and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, ‘Is not this he who sat and begged?’ Some said, ‘This is he.’ Others said, ‘He is like him.’ He said, ‘I am he.’ Therefore they said to him, ‘How were your eyes opened?’ He answered and said, ‘A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.’ Then they said to him, ‘Where is He?’ He said, ‘I do not know.’”
John 9:8-12
1. The curiosity of the neighbours
a) They talked among themselves.
i) They recognised the man who was born blind but now could see.
ii) They did not talk to him directly, not initially.
b) The discussion that went around
i) Some affirmed that he was the former blind man.
ii) Others who struggled with the idea of miracles said that this man resembled the former blind beggar.
2. The simple and straightforward testimony of the former blind beggar
a) He simply declared that he was the blind beggar whom everyone knew.
b) He was blind once but he was now able to see!
3. Queries of the neighbours
a) They wanted to know what happened.
b) How did he regain his sight?
4. Some explanations concerning this miracle
a) Jesus had anointed his eyes with clay and He sent him to wash his eyes.
b) He had obeyed and had returned completely healed.
But he could not answer their question as to where Jesus went.
