Meeting Up With Jesus
Text: John 6:25-27
MEETING UP WITH JESUS
The multitudes did find Jesus in Capernaum. They must have checked out His movements carefully and figured that they would speak to Him further.
“And when they found Him on the other side of the sea,
they said to Him, ‘Rabbi, when did You come here?’
Jesus answered them and said,
‘Most assuredly, I say to you,
you seek Me, not because you saw the signs,
but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
Do not labour for the food which perishes,
but for the food which endures to everlasting life,
which the Son of Man will give you,
because God the Father has set His seal on Him.’”John 6:25-27
1. Small talk
a. The multitudes were surprised to see Jesus in Capernaum.
b. They wanted to know how He had come to the city when He did not get into the boat with His disciples.
c. They addressed Jesus as “Rabbi”.
i. This was a title of honour.
ii. A Rabbi was a title given out of respect to “esteemed teachers”.
2. Jesus did not respond to this question
a. If He had told them that He had walked across the Sea of Tiberias that would fuel their determination to make Him their king.
b. Imagine a king who could walk on water!
3. Important spiritual matters
a. Jesus firstly addressed an obvious problem.
i. The multitudes had to know that Jesus saw through them.
ii. They could not deceive Him.
iii. Their reason for following Him was because they had been fed!
b. He offered them a spiritual angle.
i. He offered everlasting life.
ii. He was the Son of Man whom God had sealed as His Servant.
iii. They should consider this wonderful promise of eternal life from the Lord.
