The Truth About Abiding In Jesus
Text: John 15: 4
THE TRUTH ABOUT ABIDING IN JESUS
The Lord Jesus taught His disciples an important truth that they must practise. This must be carefully understood and practised.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”
John 15:4
1. “Abide in Me, and I in you”
a. This was a profound truth that is not easily understood.
b. To abide means “to remain”.
c. The Disciples had to learn how to abide in Jesus.
d. They had seen how Jesus remained faithful and true to His Disciples.
i. He had chosen them.
ii. He had taught them.
iii. He had loved them.
iv. He had been faithful in His commitment to them.
e. The Disciple must practise what Jesus had shown them.
i. They must remember what they had been taught.
ii. They must learn to love as Jesus did.
iii. They must learn to be true and steadfast.
2. “As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine”
a. This is true in the horticultural sense of the word.
b. The branch must abide or remain attached to the vine.
c. No branch would be able to bear fruit unless it abides in the vine.
d. It would be unable to bear fruit.
e. In fact, it would soon die when it is detached from the vine.
3. “Neither can you, unless you abide in Me”
a. This truth observed in horticulture was applied to the relationship between the Disciples with Jesus.
b. The Disciples must understand this important truth.
c. They must choose to abide in Jesus and not become self-absorbed or become detached from Him.

常在耶稣里面的真理
主耶稣教导了门徒一个重要的真理。这真理必须被细心明白与运用。
“你们要常在我里面,我也常在你们里面。枝子若不常在葡萄树上,自己就不能结果子;你们若不常在我里面,也是这样。”
