The Peace Jesus Offers
Text: John 14: 27
THE PEACE JESUS OFFERS
Jesus knew that His disciples were unsettled and troubled in their hearts as He spoke to them of His suffering and death. He wanted to assure their hearts by giving them His peace.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27
1. “My peace”
There were two ways in which Jesus described His peace.
a. “Peace I leave with you”
i. Jesus would leave them shortly.
ii. But His peace is left with the Disciples!
b. “My peace I give to you”
i. Just in case the disciples did not fully understand what He meant by “leaving His peace”.
ii. He spoke of “giving” His peace to the Disciples.
c. The subtleties may not be fully comprehended.
i. But the blessing of peace may be fully comprehended.
ii. Peace of heart and mind were what the Disciples sorely needed.
2. “Not as the world gives do I give to you”
a. The world also offers to give peace.
b. Some features of the world’s kind of peace.
i. Temporary
ii. Mere feelings
iii. The source is from the world
c. “Do I give to you”
i. Jesus is the Source.
ii. His source is to be traced to God the Father.
3. “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”
a. The human heart is easily troubled.
b. It is very prone to being afraid.
c. The peace that Jesus offers will cause the heart not to be troubled or afraid.
This peace that Jesus offers comes from a truly Heavenly source!
