MORE PROFOUND TRUTHS
The teaching about love for the Lord and keeping His word is of vital importance. Thus, this word was emphasised and given such attention.
“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.’”
John 14:23
1. Love for the Lord
a. Often, we assume that we love the Lord.
b. We are upset if anyone questions our love for the Lord.
2. “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word”
a. It was Jesus Himself who explains what true love for Him really is.
b. The big word is “If”.
c. Jesus puts this into an equation:
i. If this love for Jesus is true,
ii. Then it follows that the believer would keep His word.
d. The equation applied:
i. But if the believer does not actually keep His word,
ii. Then that declaration of love for Jesus must be re-examined.
3. “And My Father will love him”
a. The person who truly loves Jesus.
b. And he proves it by keeping the words of Jesus.
c. This believer will be especially loved by the Father.
d. How we keep the words of Jesus matters to the Father.
4. “And We will come to him”
a. This is a beautiful expression.
b. Both Father and Son would come to the believer who truly loves Jesus.
5. “And make Our home with him”
a. Both Father and Son would make the heart of the true believer Their home.
b. What a great honour that would be!
c. What a great reward this would be for the believer who proves his love for Jesus by keeping His word.
