Preparation of Heaven
Text: John 14: 3-4
PREPARATION OF HEAVEN
Jesus went on to explain where He was going. This bit of knowledge would be in addition to existing knowledge of Heaven.
“I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; That where I am, there you may be also.”
John 14:2b-4
1. “I go to prepare a place for you”
a. How would Jesus do that?
b. Necessary preparation:
i. A sinner cannot enter into the holy House of God
ii. Heaven is, of course, a holy place
iii. Jesus would have to deal with the problem of sin
c. The Death of the Lord Jesus Christ
i. He would have to make an atonement for our sins
ii. He would have to die on behalf of us
iii. He would have to die a substitutionary death
iv. Jesus did not die for His own sins for He had none
v. He took the judgment and penalty of our sins upon Himself when He died on the Cross
vi. Only through Christ can our sins be forgiven
d. The grace of God
i. We do not deserve the mercy of God
ii. Nor do we deserve to be forgiven of our many sins
iii. The word “grace” teaches us that God’s mercy is given even though we are unworthy
e. In this way, Jesus prepared Heaven for us
3. “I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also”
a. Heaven is where Jesus is
b. And He will personally receive us when we die
c. What a glorious Saviour we have
d. What a wonderful salvation Jesus offers to all who believe in Him
e. With such a hope, there is no need for the heart to be troubled
