Darkness And Light
Text: Matthew 4:14-18
“That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
‘The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,
And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned.’
From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”Matthew 4:14, 16-17
DARKNESS
The word “darkness” is used in the Scriptures to describe:
1. The lack of light.
2. Sin causes darkness.
3. When we are far away from God we are in darkness.
4. Darkness is well-described as “the region and shadow of death”.
LIGHT
The word “light” is used in the Scriptures to describe:
1. The Lord Jesus as the Light.
“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
John 8:12
2. The Light that the Scriptures are able to give.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105
FULFILMENT OF THE SCRIPTURES
1. Jesus came to fulfil an ancient prophecy.
2. The text in Matthew 4:14, 16 is the prophecy written in Isaiah 9:1-2.
3. Jesus was that “great light”.
THE MESSAGE OF LIGHT THE LORD JESUS PREACHED
1. A message of repentance
a. We recognise the sins in our life.
b. To repent is to turn away from sin.
c. And to turn to God for forgiveness of sins.
2. An invitation to enter into the Kingdom of heaven
a. How wonderful it is to know we can enter into the Kingdom of heaven.
b. The Lord Jesus will receive us into the Kingdom of God when we trust in Him.
c. Let the light of the Lord and His Gospel dispel the darkness in our life.

黑暗
