MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.”
Galatians 6:14-15
A NEW CREATION
1. The word “boasting” has the following nuances:
a. Taking false pride.
b. Glorying in deeds.
2. The false teachers were boasting in:
a. How they had influenced people to be circumcised.
b. Caused people to turn back to keeping the Law for justification.
c. How “successful” they had been in taking people away from following the Gospel that Paul had proclaimed.
d. They had nothing to boast about for they were leading people to be in bondage.
3. Paul’s stance.
a. He had true success.
i. In church planting.
ii. In fulfilling his role as an Apostle admirably.
iii. In being a master-teacher.
b. But he refused to glory in all that he had accomplished.
4. True glorying:
a. It is to be found in the Lord Jesus Christ and all He has done.
b. Paul rejected any worldly attempt at boasting.
5. Crucified with the Lord Jesus.
a. Paul had been justified by faith.
b. He had crucified himself with the Lord Jesus (Galatians 2:20; 6:14).
c. He would never boast of himself like the false teachers.
d. The world was dead to the Apostle Paul.
6. Reiteration of what it means to be in the Lord Jesus Christ.
a. Circumcision avails nothing.
b. Uncircumcision also avails nothing.
c. The person who believes in the Lord Jesus is a new creation.
This is everything!
