Text: Galatians 5: 7-8
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you.”
Galatians 5:7-8
IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM
1. The Faith-Life
a. It may be compared to a race.
b. Paul used “the race” in another epistle (1 Corinthians 9:24-26).
c. This “race” is a reference to the ancient “marathon race”.
i. It is a long race.
ii. It takes training and discipline to be able to run well.
d. The Galatians were not doing well in this race.
2. The Galatians
a. They had run well, initially.
b. But they were now being hindered.
c. Who had hindered them from obeying the truth given by God?
3. The “persuasion” that Paul wrote about:
a. Influence
b. Wrong thoughts and inclinations.
c. These were affecting the running of the Galatians.
d. This problem had to be addressed.
4. It cannot have come from God!
a. God was the One who had called them.
b. He had given them “truth”.
c. He has taught them to obey the truth.
5. The state of the Galatians:
a. They were not following the truth.
b. They were not obeying the truth.
c. This was the hard reality.
d. They must recognise this fact and then attend to the problem that was identified.
