MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – SALVATION
“O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?”

THE DEEP GRIEF OF THE APOSTLE PAUL
1. The Apostle Paul had a deep relationship with the Galatians.
a. Paul did not only preach the Gospel.
b. The believers who responded to his messages became personal friends.
2. Deeply saddened:
a. He was sad when he learned that some brethren had departed from the faith.
b. He was understandably angry with false teachers who had affected the faith of the brethren so adversely.
REMONSTRATING WITH THE GALATIANS
1. The word “bewitched”
a. It does not mean that Paul believed in witchcraft.
b. This word expresses how Paul felt as he looked at the Galatians.
i. He was greatly surprised at the negative changes that had taken place.
ii. It was as if the Galatians has been “bewitched!”
2. There was once obedience.
a. To the Lord Jesus.
b. To the truth of the Gospel.
3. There was now disobedience.
a. To the truths that the Galatians were taught.
b. The Gospel they had believed in was set aside in favour of keeping the law for salvation.
4. The focus of the Gospel that Paul preached.
a. It was centred in the Lord Jesus Christ.
b. Paul had carefully explained why the Lord Jesus was crucified.
i. He bore our sins on Himself.
ii. He is the Saviour giving salvation.
iii. Through faith in the Lord, the believer receives justification.
5. The danger that was faced.
a. The law was being emphasised.
b. The keeping of the law to receive justification was being taught.
c. Believers were being drawn into seeking salvation through keeping the law.
