Text: Colossians 3: 16-17
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Colossians 3:16-17
THE SCRIPTURES IN GENERAL
1. God had given the Scriptures to His people, Israel.
2. The Scriptures were collected together over hundreds of years.
3. The writers of the Old Testament:
a. Prophets
b. Kings
c. Wise men
4. God’s Spirit moved them and helped them to write unerringly.
THE PERSON OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
1. The LORD sent the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. He trained a special group of Disciples.
3. He appointed them as His Apostles.
4. They began to write what we call “The New Testament”.
THE WORD OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
1. The Apostles stood in a special relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. They were specially taught by Him.
3. The Apostles taught people in two main ways:
a. By preaching and teaching (oral).
c. By their epistles (written).
RESPONDING TO THE WORD OF THE LORD JESUS
1. His word must dwell in our hearts richly.
2. There is much wisdom in the Word of the Lord Jesus.
This wisdom is to be discerned!
HELPING OTHERS LEARN
1. We can help others learn:
a. By teaching them.
b. By admonishing them.
2. Some means we may consider:
a. By using the Psalms.
b. Or hymns.
c. Or spiritual songs.
3. Be conscious:
a. Of the grace of the Lord.
b. All we seek to do must come from our hearts.
THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS
1. His name must be precious to us.
2. We should be conscious of the Lord’s name.
a. In our speech.
b. In our deeds.
3. Our hearts should be filled with thanksgiving always.
a. As we live out our faith.
b. As we serve the Lord.
