Text: Colossians 3: 8-9
MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds.”
Colossians 3:8-9
COMMON PROBLEMS
1. Some problems are non-doctrinal.
2. These problems however are common ones.
3. Thus, many do not bother to address them seriously.
4. These problems include the following:
a. Anger
b. Wrath
c. Malice
d. Blasphemy
e. Filthy language out of your mouth.
f. Lying
5. Some even “accept” these as “normal”.
a. These problems must be dealt with.
b. They can bring much hurt:
i. To ourselves.
ii. To others.
c. These will adversely affect:
i. Our faith.
ii. Our character.
iii. Our testimony.
iv. Our relationship with the Lord.
d. If they persist:
i. They will become permanent features of our life.
ii. They can lead to dreadful sinfulness.
PUT OFF THE OLD MAN
1. The phrase “the old man” would include:
a. Our defective Christian behaviour.
b. Our negative activities.
c. Our character .
2. If we have indeed declared faith in the Lord Jesus Christ:
a. These traits must be put off permanently.
b. The conscientious believer would desire to put off “the old man”.
