Text: Luke 8: 26-30

THE LAND OF THE GADARENES

1. This was on the Eastern shore of Galilee.

2. There was a lakeside town called Gergesa.

3. There was a larger city called Gadara.

4. The people are sometimes called:

a. Gergesenes

b. Or Gadarenes

A MAN OF GADARA

1. When the Lord Jesus stepped out on the seashore, a “certain man” from the city of Gadara came to see Him (Luke 8:27).

2. A detailed description of this “certain man”

a. He had been possessed by demons for a long time (Luke 8:27a).

b. He wore no clothes (Luke 8:27b).

c. He did not live in a house but in the tombs (Luke 8:27c).

d. A spirit would often seize him (Luke 8:29b).

e. He was kept under guard (by the town’s people). {Luke 8:29c}

f. He was bound with chains and shackles (Luke 8:29d).

g. He would break these bonds (Luke 8:29e).

h. A demon would drive him to live in the wilderness (Luke 8:29f).

THE DEMON IN THE MAN

1. The demon in the man

a. He caused the man to fall down before the Lord Jesus (Luke 8:28a).

b. He cried out with a loud voice.

i. “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?” (Luke 8:28b)

ii. “I beg You, do not torment me!” (Luke 8:28c)

c. The demon feared the Lord Jesus.

i. He knew Him as the Son of God.

ii. He was in torment in the presence of the Lord!

2. A Conversation with the man of Gadara

a. The Lord Jesus spoke to the man who was possessed.

“What is your name?” Luke 8:30a

b. He replied,

“Legion” Luke 8:30b

i. Many demons had entered him (Luke 8:30c).

ii. This was his nickname.

a. 主耶稣和被鬼附着的人说话

“你名叫什么？”《路加福音 8：30a》

b. 他回答说

“我名叫群”《路加福音8：30b》

i. 有很多鬼附着他《路加福音8：30c》

ii. 这是他的外号
