Text: Luke 8: 11-13
EXPLANATION OF THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER I
1. The seed
This is the word of God. (Luke 8:11)
2. The wayside (Luke 8:12)
a. The ones who hear.
i. The casual hearer.
ii. He listens but not with any great sense of interest.
b. The work of the devil.
i. He comes.
ii. He takes away the word out of their hearts.
iii. He does not want the seed to take root.
iv. He knows the word of God can generate faith that leads to salvation; he prevents faith if he can.
c. Lessons we must learn.
i. Let us be aware that the devil can snatch away the word of God.
ii. Let us resist his efforts.
iii. Let us determine not to become casual listeners.
iv. Let us recognize the value of God’s word and its power to give us salvation.
v. Let us make every effort to listen well to the Lord’s word.
3. The ones on the rock (Luke 8:13)
a. They hear and they receive the word with joy.
i. But these do not have much roots.
ii. They carry on for a while.
b. But when temptation (testing comes), they fall away.
