Text: Luke 3:21-38

THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. Baptism of many people

a. John baptised all who were genuinely repentant.

b. The questions the people asked would indicate:

i. That John interviewed the candidate before baptism.

ii. Those who were not genuine, he refused to baptise them.

2. Baptism of the Lord Jesus Christ

a. John’s baptism focused on:

i. Repentance from sin.

ii. Preparation of the heart to receive the Messiah.

b. The baptism of the Lord Jesus had a totally different meaning.

i. There was no sin to confess.

ii. He was the Messiah.

iii. His baptism marked the commencement of His public ministry.

iv. His baptism may be regarded as His “ordination” for ministry.

SPECIAL FEATURES TO TAKE NOTE OF

1. The heavens were opened (Luke 3:21)

2. The Holy Spirit descended on Him

a. The symbol was that of a dove.

b. The dove symbolised the following:

i. Peace

ii. Gentleness

iii. Purity

3. The voice of God the Father from heaven

a. A word was given to the Lord Jesus Christ.

i. “You are My beloved Son”

ii. “In You I am well-pleased” (Luke 3:22)

b. This was of great significance

i. “My beloved Son”

This was “authentication”.

ii. “In You I am well-pleased”

This was “approval”.

4. The Age of the Lord Jesus Christ

a. The Lord Jesus was thirty years old.

b. He began His ministry at this mature age.

GENEALOGY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. Luke offered a short genealogy of the Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 3:23-38).

2. The last verse is to be noted (Luke 3:38)

a. He was “The Son of Adam”. This spoke of His humanity.

b. He was also “The Son of God”. This spoke of His divinity.

3. Luke, in his Gospel, portrayed the Lord Jesus in both capacities:

a. As the Son of Man.

b. As the divine Son of God.

a. 形状仿佛鸽子

b. 鸽子象征以下：

i. 平安

ii. 温柔

iii. 纯洁

3. 天父上帝的声音从天上来

a. 赐给主耶稣基督的话

i. “你是我的爱子”

ii. “我喜悦你” 《路加福音 3：22》

i. “我的爱子”

ii. “我喜悦你”

4. 主耶稣基督的年龄

a. 主耶稣年纪约有三十岁

主耶稣基督的家谱

1. 路加提供了主耶稣基督简短的家谱 《路加福音 3：23-38》

2. 注意最后一节《路加福音 3：38》

a. 祂是“亚当的儿子”。这说明了祂的人性。

b. 祂也是“神的儿子”。这说明了祂的神性。

3. 路加在福音书里描绘了主耶稣的两种身份：

a. 作为人子

b. 作为上帝神圣的儿子
