Text: Luke 24: 25-27
THE TEACHING OF THE LORD JESUS
1. The Lord Jesus wanted to check out the knowledge of this pair of disciples.
a. They knew the Facts.
b. But they lacked the Faith and Fulness of comprehension.
2. The Lord Jesus had to explain many things to His disciples.
“Then He said to them, ‘O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?’ And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.”
Luke 24:25-27
3. Problems highlighted:
a. They were rebuked for being foolish.
b. They were also rebuked for being so slow of heart to believe all that the prophets had said.
c. Two essential truths were highlighted to the Disciples:
i. The Lord Jesus had to suffer many things (for the sake of our redemption).
ii. After His suffering, to enter into His glory.
4. Exposition of the Scriptures.
a. Beginning from Moses and the Prophets (Sometimes called, the Law and the Prophets).
b. The Lord expounded the Scriptures that referred to Himself.
c. The Lord had fulfilled all that was expected of Him as the Messiah.
5. The challenge for the Disciples:
a. To check their heart of unbelief.
b. To find the needed faith.
c. To be restored in faith and to be strengthened.
