我夜间的歌曲《路加福音》
Text: Luke 11: 29-30
AN EVIL GENERATION
“And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, ‘This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. For as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation.’”
Luke 11:29-30
1. The Crowds
a. There were many who gathered to the Lord Jesus.
b. But the number of people does not mean much.
c. Not all had come to listen and to learn.
d. Some came only to find fault and to criticise.
2. Assessment of the Crowds by the Lord Jesus.
a. “This is an evil generation” (Luke 11:29a).
b. How did the Lord Jesus come to this conclusion?
c. “It seeks a sign” (Luke 11:29b).
d. The reality: Many signs had been given!
i. The blind see.
ii. The lame walk.
iii. The lepers are cleansed.
iv. The deaf hear.
v. The dead are raised (Luke 7:22).
3. No sign except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
a. Jonah was a prophet of God.
i. He was instructed to go to Nineveh in Assyria.
ii. Jonah disobeyed and tried to run away.
b. God sent a huge fish to swallow Jonah.
i. He was in the stomach of the fish for three days.
ii. God kept him and he went to Nineveh to preach to the people.
iii. He was very successful in his ministry.
iv. He was a sign to the Ninevites. It was God’s power that made this miracle possible.
c. The Resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
i. That would be a huge sign.
ii. It would be a sign that the Lord Jesus had been sent by God.
