Text: Genesis 50: 4-6
MEDITATION
Genesis 50:4-6
4 Now when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spoke to the household of Pharaoh, saying, “If now I have found favour in your eyes, please speak in the hearing of Pharaoh, saying,
5 ‘My father made me swear, saying, “Behold, I am dying; in my grave which I dug for myself in the land of Canaan, there you shall bury me.” Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come back.’ ”
6 And Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, as he made you swear.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The mourning period
a. The seventy days had passed.
b. The embalming process was done.
2. An appeal to the Pharaoh
a. Joseph was still subject to the Pharaoh.
b. He had to ask permission to bury his father in the land of Canaan.
i. Joseph sought the favour of Pharaoh.
ii. He explained that his father Jacob had made him swear to bury him in Canaan.
iii. The burial ground was an ancestral one.
c. Joseph promised that he would return to Egypt after he had buried his father.
3. Pharaoh’s permission
a. He still looked on Joseph with much favour.
b. Pharaoh has become much wealthier and stronger because of Joseph.
i. Pharaoh owned the whole land of Egypt.
ii. Except for the lands of the priest.
iii. And the land of Goshen which was given by the Pharaoh to Joseph and his family.
c. Pharaoh graciously granted permission to Joseph to bury his late father.

4 为他哀哭的日子过了,约瑟对法老家中的人说:“我若在你们眼前蒙恩,请你们报告法老说:
5 ‘我父亲要死的时候叫我起誓说:“你要将我葬在迦南地,在我为自己所掘的坟墓里。”现在求你让我上去葬我父亲,以后我必回来。’”6 法老说:“你可以上去,照着你父亲叫你起的誓将他葬埋。”
