Text: Genesis 48: 6-7
MEDITATION
Genesis 48:6-7
6 Your offspring whom you beget after them shall be yours; they will be called by the name of their brothers in their inheritance.
7 But as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died beside me in the land of Canaan on the way, when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath; and I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Your offspring
a. This is a reference to other children Joseph might have.
b. There is no Biblical record of Joseph having any other children.
2. Remembering Padan
a. Jacob remembered how he had to flee from the wrath of his brother Esau to Padan Aram.
b. The years at Padan Aram:
i. He toiled for the hand of Rachel (seven years).
ii. His labour of love for Rachel cost him another seven years.
iii. By then he had a large family.
iv. He left Padan Aram to return to Canaan.
3. Remembering Rachel’s death
a. Jacob had always loved Rachel.
i. She continued to be remembered affectionately.
ii. Joseph would also remember his mother with love.
b. She had died giving birth to Benjamin.
c. She died on the way to Bethlehem (Ephrath).
d. Jacob was there when she passed away.
e. He remembered even the place of her burial.
