Text: Genesis 45: 9-11
MEDITATION
Genesis 45:9-11
9 “Hurry and go up to my father, and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph: “God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not tarry.
10 You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near to me, you and your children, your children’s children, your flocks and your herds, and all that you have.
11 There I will provide for you, lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty; for there are still five years of famine.”’
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The return to Canaan
a. This was what Joseph urged his brothers to do.
b. It was a long journey home.
c. Their father would be worrying all the time.
2. A message from Joseph
a. “God has made me lord of all Egypt”
Joseph never failed to give praise and thanks to God!
b. “Come down to me, do not tarry”
Joseph urged his father to come down to him. He must not tarry!
c. “You shall dwell in the land of Goshen”
i. The whole family would be quite near to Joseph.
ii. This would include the grandchildren.
iii. Flocks and cattle would be looked after too.
iv. “All that you have” would take in “servants” that may have been acquired.
d. A promise of provision:
i. He would fully provide.
ii. They need not descend into poverty.
e. Five more years of famine forewarned
This famine would have devastating impact on all. Many would become impoverished. Jacob must therefore give heed to this word and come to Egypt immediately.
