Text: Genesis 40: 9-15
MEDITATION
Genesis 40:9-15
9 Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “Behold, in my dream a vine was before me,
10 and in the vine were three branches; it was as though it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes.
11 Then Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”
12 And Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days.
13 Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler.
14 But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house.
15 For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews; and also I have done nothing here that they should put me into the dungeon.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The dream of the Chief Butler
a. He dreamt of a vine with three branches and ripened grapes.
b. He squeezed the grapes and served wine to the Pharaoh.
2. The Interpretation of the dream
a. The three branches:
i. This represented three days.
ii. The Butler would be sent for in three days by the Pharaoh.
b. Making wine and serving the Pharaoh:
i. The Butler would be restored to his former job.
ii. He would once again serve the Pharaoh as his cup-bearer.
3. Joseph’s request
a. That the chief butler would mention him before the Pharaoh.
b. He spoke of his innocence. He did not deserve to be imprisoned!
c. He was a Hebrew who had been stolen from his homeland.

9酒政便将他的梦告诉约瑟说：“我梦见在我面前有一棵葡萄树，
10树上有三根枝子，好像发了芽，开了花，上头的葡萄都成熟了。
11法老的杯在我手中，我就拿葡萄挤在法老的杯里，将杯递在他手中。”
12约瑟对他说：“你所做的梦是这样解：三根枝子就是三天，
13三天之内，法老必提你出监，叫你官复原职，你仍要递杯在法老的手中，和先前做他的酒政一样。
14但你得好处的时候，求你记念我，施恩于我，在法老面前提说我，救我出这监牢。15我实在是从希伯来人之地被拐来的，我在这里也没有做过什么，叫他们把我下在监里。”
