MEDITATION
Genesis 36:9-14
9 And this is the genealogy of Esau the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir.
10 These were the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, and Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau.
11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
12 Now Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.
13 These were the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Basemath, Esau’s wife.
14 These were the sons of Aholibamah, Esau’s wife, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon. And she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A second Genealogy
a. The first genealogy presented Esau in the land of Canaan.
b. The second genealogy presented Esau as the father of the Edomites.
2. Similarities and Differences
a. The three wives of Esau were mentioned.
b. They were listed in a slightly different order.
i. The first list was in chronological order.
ii. The second list was not in chronological order.
iii. The second list might have been arranged with prominence of sons in view.
3. Eliphaz was the firstborn of Esau
a. His sons were mentioned as Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.
b. Timna, his concubine was also mentioned and her son was Amalek.
4. Reuel was the second son
He had four sons, Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah
5. The third wife was mentioned. She had three sons with Esau, Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.
However, there was no mention of any sons from them.
