Text: Genesis 32: 3-5
MEDITATION
Genesis 32:3-5
3 Then Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
4 And he commanded them, saying, “Speak thus to my lord Esau, ‘Thus your servant Jacob says: “I have dwelt with Laban and stayed there until now.
5 I have oxen, donkeys, flocks, and male and female servants; and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favour in your sight.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The Journey back to Canaan
a. Jacob had fled from Canaan fearing for his life.
b. His brother, Esau had sworn to kill him because of his deceit.
c. There were deep fears within his heart as he made his journey home.
2. Sending a message to Esau
a. Esau resided in a land called Edom also known as the land of Seir.
b. A message was to be delivered to Esau by his servants.
3. Content of the message
a. Esau was addressed as “lord”. To give to Esau respect and honour.
b. Jacob presented himself as a “servant”.
c. Years away in a foreign land.
d. Jacob had found success in the land of his father-in-law, Laban.
e. He sought to inform Esau that he was returning home.
f. He also expressed hope that he would find favour in Esau’s eyes.
4. A very different Jacob
a. He had a new sense of regard and respect for Esau.
This was not there twenty years ago.
b. He had a humbler understanding of himself.
He knew that his old ways of deception and lying had to be totally forsaken.

4 吩咐他们说:“你们对我主以扫说:‘你的仆人雅各这样说:我在拉班那里寄居,直到如今。5 我有牛、驴、羊群、仆婢,现在打发人来报告我主,为要在你眼前蒙恩。’”
