Text: Genesis 30: 22-24
MEDITATION
Genesis 30:22-24
22 Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.
23 And she conceived and bore a son, and said, “God has taken away my reproach.”
24 So she called his name Joseph, and said, “The LORD shall add to me another son.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. God remembered Rachel
a. This does not mean that God had forgotten her.
b. But He had shut Rachel’s womb so that she was unable to have children.
2. God listened to Rachel
a. Rachel obviously had cried out to God.
b. In humility she pleaded with God to give her a child.
c. God opened her womb.
3. Rachel’s conception
a. She bore a son to Jacob.
b. She named her son “Joseph”.
This name was also symbolic. It meant “He will add”.
c. Joseph would not be her one and only son.
d. She expressed faith and hope that God would add further.
4. Mandrakes
a. It was not because of the mandrakes that Rachel became fertile.
b. Joseph was not born till years later.
PRAYERS ANSWERED BY GOD
1. Leah had prayed to the LORD for more children. God had answered her prayer.
2. Rachel had also turned to God in prayer. The LORD also graciously heard and answered her prayer.
