Text: Genesis 3: 8-13
MEDITATION
Genesis 3:8-13
8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
9 Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
13 And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. God’s presence and fellowship with Adam and Eve
a. “In the cool of the day”
This could be in the evening, at the end of a workday.
b. God was “walking” and looking for the couple.
2. Adam and Eve
a. They hid themselves from the presence of God.
b. They were now conscious of being “naked” and they were “afraid” of the LORD.
3. God’s questions
a. God, of course knew the answers.
b. But He raised the questions to Adam and Eve anyway.
4. Adam’s answer
a. He blamed Eve for giving him the forbidden fruit.
b. He did not own up to the fact that though he was not deceived, he was still guilty of disobedience.
5. Eve’s answer
She blamed the serpent for having deceived her! Blaming is hardly the answer, even if it is partially true. Blaming everyone and everything is still a very common thing we see practised even today.
