MEDITATION
Genesis 29:25-27
25 So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you deceived me?”
26 And Laban said, “It must not be done so in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.
27 Fulfil her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Jacob’s discovery
a. He had not married Rachel after all.
b. Leah, the older sister, was his bride,
2. Jacob confronted Laban
a. He accused Laban of deception.
b. The original arrangement was to work for seven years for the hand of Rachel.
c. Why had Leah taken Rachel’s place?
d. Perhaps Jacob now felt the pain that his father and brother had felt when he deceived them.
3. Laban’s excuse
a. He appealed to the country’s custom.
i. The elder must first be married.
ii. The younger cannot be married first.
iii. This explanation does not excuse his deception.
b. Second appeal to Jacob
i. To stay married to Leah.
ii. To have conjugal relationship with Leah in order to have children.
iii. To work for another seven years.
Rachel would be given to Jacob as promised.
