Text: Genesis 29: 18-20
MEDITATION
Genesis 29:18-20
18 Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.”
19 And Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”
20 So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him because of the love he had for her.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Jacob’s heart
a. He did not love his twin brother for he cheated him on two occasions.
b. But he found love for Rachel.
2. Jacob’s word to Laban
a. He offered seven years of labour for the hand of Rachel.
b. This gives added meaning to what “love” means.
i. He will find the strength to serve faithfully.
ii. He will find the inspiration to serve diligently.
iii. His heart of love enabled Jacob to utter these words to Laban.
3. Laban’s response
a. He would have to find a husband for Rachel anyway.
b. Jacob would do fine as a son-in-law.
c. He accepted Jacob’s terms.
d. It was all in Laban’s favour.
4. Jacob’s years of service
a. He served without wages for seven years.
b. He would not be able to buy anything nice for his personal enjoyment.
c. The seven years “seemed only a few days” to him.
Such was the power of love that inspired Jacob to work as he did!

18 雅各爱拉结,就说:“我愿为你小女儿拉结服侍你七年。”
19 拉班说:“我把她给你胜似给别人,你与我同住吧。”20 雅各就为拉结服侍了七年。他因为深爱拉结,就看这七年如同几天。
