Text: Genesis 26: 28-29
MEDITATION
Genesis 26:28-29
28 But they said, “We have certainly seen that the LORD is with you. So we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, between you and us; and let us make a covenant with you,
29 that you will do us no harm, since we have not touched you, and since we have done nothing to you but good and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of the LORD.’”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The comments of the Philistine leaders
a. They had observed Isaac and his life.
b. They came to the conclusion that the LORD was with him and blessed him.
i. How else could he find the wells the way he did?
ii. How else could he have prospered so significantly?
iii. The Philistines were natives, but they had not fared so well!
2. The making of a covenant
a. Abimelech offered to have a covenant between them,
b. He was treating Isaac as an equal in this treaty offered.
3. Terms of the covenant
a. This was to be done with a solemn oath.
b. Isaac must not do them any harm.
4. Abimelech’s statement
a. The Philistines had not harmed Isaac or his servants.
b. They may have had some quarrels but no physical harm came to Isaac.
c. Isaac was sent away peacefully.
5. An added concluding remark
a. Isaac was “the blessed of the LORD”.
b. This fact was not lost on Abimelech and his people.
