MEDITATION
Genesis 26:6-9
6 So Isaac dwelt in Gerar.
7 And the men of the place asked about his wife. And he said, “She is my sister”; for he was afraid to say, “She is my wife,” because he thought, “lest the men of the place kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to behold.”
8 Now it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked through a window, and saw, and there was Isaac, showing endearment to Rebekah his wife.
9 Then Abimelech called Isaac and said, “Quite obviously she is your wife; so how could you say, ‘She is my sister’?” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die on account of her.’ ”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Dwelling in Gerar
a. Queries about Rebekah’s relationship with Isaac were made.
b. Isaac simply declared that Rebekah was his sister.
c. He feared that if he owned her as wife, he might be killed.
d. Rebekah was beautiful.
2. Abimelech’s remonstration with Isaac
a. He saw Isaac showing endearment to Rebekah.
b. He confronted him on this matter.
3. Isaac’s explanation
a. He was fearful of living in Gerar.
b. He was afraid that he might be killed and Rebekah taken from him.
c. Thus, he felt that he had to use a lie to save himself from being killed.
4. A great similarity
a. Abraham had lied about Sarah being his sister.
b. Isaac did exactly the same thing!

6 以撒就住在基拉耳。
7 那地方的人问到他的妻子，他便说：“那是我的妹子。”原来他怕说“是我的妻子”。他心里想：“恐怕这地方的人为利百加的缘故杀我，因为她容貌俊美。”
8 他在那里住了许久。有一天，非利士人的王亚比米勒从窗户里往外观看，见以撒和他的妻子利百加戏玩。9 亚比米勒召了以撒来，对他说：“她实在是你的妻子，你怎么说她是你的妹子？”以撒说：“我心里想，恐怕我因她而死。”
