MEDITATION
Genesis 24:60-61
60 And they blessed Rebekah and said to her: “Our sister, may you become the mother of thousands of ten thousands; And may your descendants possess the gates of those who hate them.”
61 Then Rebekah and her maids arose, and they rode on the camels and followed the man. So the servant took Rebekah and departed.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The blessing given to Rebekah
a. This was a precious word that must bring warmth to the heart.
b. The blessing given to Rebekah must not be misunderstood.
i. This blessing must not be taken too literally.
ii. It would be technically impossible to be a mother of thousands.
c. How may this blessing be understood?
i. That Rebekah would be fruitful in child-bearing.
ii. That this blessing would apply to the kind of descendants she would have.
iii. The descendants would be strong and courageous.
iv. They would be victorious over all their enemies.
2. The entourage that went with Rebekah
a. Her nurse would accompany her.
b. She was given maids who would travel with her and attend to her needs.
c. They would journey with the chief steward and his men to Canaan.
The task that Abraham had given to his chief steward was wonderfully blessed. It was highly successful.
