MEDITATION
Genesis 24:54-56
54 Then they arose in the morning, and he said, “Send me away to my master.”
55 But her brother and her mother said, “Let the young woman stay with us a few days, at least ten; after that she may go.”
56 And he said to them, “Do not hinder me, since the LORD has prospered my way; send me away so that I may go to my master.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Request to return to Abraham immediately
a. This was a request made by the chief steward of Abraham.
b. Reasons for an immediate departure:
i. It was a long journey to the home of Bethuel and Milcah.
ii. It would be a long journey back to Canaan.
iii. Abraham was already more than a hundred years old.
iv. It would not be good to stay away any longer.
2. A counter proposal by the family of Rebekah
a. She should stay for another 10 days.
b. This was a reasonable request.
3. Plea of the chief steward
a. He pleaded for permission to leave immediately.
b. Once again, he cited the LORD’s name:
i. He had blessed and prospered the task that was entrusted to him.
ii. If the LORD has so blessed then it was logical also that he must return as soon as possible to report to his master Abraham.
iii. The family must not hinder his return to Canaan.

54仆人和跟从他的人吃了喝了,住了一夜。早晨起来,仆人就说:“请打发我回我主人那里去吧。”
55利百加的哥哥和她母亲说:“让女子同我们再住几天,至少十天,然后她可以去。”56 仆人说:“耶和华既赐给我通达的道路,你们不要耽误我,请打发我走,回我主人那里去吧。”
