Text: Genesis 24: 39-41
MEDITATION
Genesis 24:39-41
39 And I said to my master, ‘Perhaps the woman will not follow me.’
40 But he said to me, ‘The LORD, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father’s house.
41 You will be clear from this oath when you arrive among my family; for if they will not give her to you, then you will be released from my oath.’
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The chief steward’s concern expressed to Abraham
a. What if the woman from Abraham’s family would not respond favourably?
b. What should he do then?
i. He could not compel or force a woman against her will.
ii. He could not offer bribes.
2. Abraham’s faith and assurance
a. He expressed his faith in the LORD. He walked consciously before Him.
b. God would send His angel
i. To lead.
ii. To protect.
iii. To prosper in this venture.
c. Confidence
i. God would provide a good wife for Isaac.
ii. The woman would come from Abraham’s family.
3. In the event that Abraham’s family would reject this proposal of marriage
a. The chief steward would not be faulted.
b. He would be freed from the oath that he had sworn.

39 我对我主人说:‘恐怕女子不肯跟我来。’
40 他就说:‘我所侍奉的耶和华必要差遣他的使者与你同去,叫你的道路通达,你就得以在我父家、我本族那里,给我的儿子娶一个妻子。41 只要你到了我本族那里,我使你起的誓就与你无干。他们若不把女子交给你,我使你起的誓也与你无干。’
