Text: Genesis 24: 5-9
MEDITATION
Genesis 24:5-9
5 And the servant said to him, “Perhaps the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land. Must I take your son back to the land from which you came?”
6 But Abraham said to him, “Beware that you do not take my son back there.
7 The LORD God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my family, and who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, ‘To your descendants I give this land,’ He will send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.
8 And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be released from this oath; only do not take my son back there.”
9 So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The wise queries of the Chief Steward
a. What if the woman from Abraham’s family would not come to Canaan?
b. Would he then have to bring Isaac out of Canaan to go to Haran?
2. Abraham’s clear and firm answer
a. Isaac must not leave Canaan.
b. God had led Abraham to Canaan and Isaac must stay within the Promised Land.
3. The word of promise given by God to Abraham was remembered clearly
a. He addressed God as “The LORD God of heaven”.
b. He remembered how God had led him out of Haran into Canaan.
c. He remembered God’s promise to give Canaan to him and his descendants.
4. Assurance given to the Chief Steward
a. God will send an Angel to lead him.
b. If the woman refused to come to Canaan, the servant is released from his oath.
c. The Chief Steward swore a solemn oath to undertake this task entrusted to him.

5 仆人对他说：“倘若女子不肯跟我到这地方来，我必须将你的儿子带回你原出之地吗？”
6 亚伯拉罕对他说：“你要谨慎，不要带我的儿子回那里去！
7 耶和华天上的主曾带领我离开父家和本族的地，对我说话，向我起誓说：‘我要将这地赐给你的后裔。’他必差遣使者在你面前，你就可以从那里为我儿子娶一个妻子。
8 倘若女子不肯跟你来，我使你起的誓就与你无干了，只是不可带我的儿子回那里去。”9 仆人就把手放在他主人亚伯拉罕的大腿底下，为这事向他起誓。
