Text: Genesis 23: 1-2
MEDITATION
Genesis 23:1-2
1 Sarah lived one hundred and twenty-seven years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.
2 So Sarah died in Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Sarah’s death noted
a. She was 127 years old.
b. She gave birth to Isaac at a great age.
c. She died in Kirjath Arba (which came to be known as Hebron later on).
d. Hebron was in the land of Canaan.
e. Thus far, Sarah’s age was the only one noted.
i. A long life is a blessing from the Lord.
ii. God was certainly gracious and kind to Sarah.
2. The character of Sarah
a. She followed Abraham when God called him to leave Haran.
b. There were weak moments in her life where her temper got the better of her.
c. There were also good things that must be said about Sarah.
d. Honour given to Sarah
i. Sarah was honoured by the apostle Peter as a worthy example to emulate.
ii. Good women are called “daughters of Sarah” (1 Peter 3:6).
3. Mourning of Abraham
a. He was away when Sarah passed on.
b. He came to Hebron to mourn the passing on of his wife, Sarah. His mourning was expressed in “weeping”.
