Text: Genesis 20: 14-16
MEDITATION
Genesis 20:14-16
14 Then Abimelech took sheep, oxen, and male and female servants, and gave them to Abraham; and he restored Sarah his wife to him.
15 And Abimelech said, “See, my land is before you; dwell where it pleases you.”
16 Then to Sarah he said, “Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; indeed this vindicates you before all who are with you and before everybody.” Thus she was rebuked.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The graciousness of Abimelech
a. He compensated Abraham for having abducted Sarah.
b. The gifts were quite substantial (cattle and sheep and servants).
2. Sarah restored to Abraham
a. Abimelech spoke to Sarah directly.
b. He had given a thousand pieces of silver with other gifts.
3. Vindication
a. Sarah was acknowledged as Abraham’s wife.
b. Everyone would know this now.
c. They would not be able to use their “plan” anymore.
d. This was indeed a rebuke to Sarah (perhaps this was her idea to which Abraham had complied.
4. The largesse of Abimelech
a. He did not evict Abraham from his land.
b. Pharaoh had evicted Abraham and Sarah from Egypt.
c. Abraham was free to go wherever he wished in Abimelech’s kingdom.
d. This act of such magnanimity must have brought shame to Abraham and Sarah.

15 亚比米勒又说:“看哪,我的地都在你面前,你可以随意居住。”16 又对撒拉说:“我给你哥哥一千银子,作为你在合家人面前遮羞的,你就在众人面前没有不是了。”
