Text: Genesis 20: 3-5
MEDITATION
Genesis 20:3-5
3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.”
4 But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, “Lord, will You slay a righteous nation also?
5 Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. A dream given to Abimelech
a. God came to him in a dream.
b. He declared that Abimelech would die for abducting a married woman.
2. Abimelech’s protest
a. He had not come near to Sarah.
b. He pleaded “righteousness”.
i. This is not to say he was sinless.
ii. But that he acted in ignorance of the married status of Sarah.
c. A righteous nation:
i. Abimelech represented his nation.
ii. He was speaking as the king of the nation.
iii. If he has died by the hand of the LORD, the nation would suffer greatly.
d. Sarah’s word:
i. She had said that she was the sister of Abraham.
ii. Abimelech pleaded his “integrity” and “innocence” before the LORD.

3 但夜间神来在梦中对亚比米勒说:“你是个死人哪!因为你取了那女人来,她原是别人的妻子。”
4 亚比米勒却还没有亲近撒拉,他说:“主啊,连有义的国,你也要毁灭吗?5 那人岂不是自己对我说‘她是我的妹子’吗?就是女人也自己说‘他是我的哥哥’。我做这事是心正手洁的。”
