Text: Genesis 2: 4-7
MEDITATION
Genesis 2:4-7
4 This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
5 before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground;
6 but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. This text describes that portion of time (history) before God created mankind to look after the earth.
2. God’s care of the earth
a. God had sent a mist to water the whole earth.
b. This is different from rains that would be given later.
c. This work of looking after the earth was performed by the Lord personally.
3. The creation of man
a. Man is essentially made up of two parts:
i. The external which is called humbly “dust of the ground”.
ii. The internal part which is called “the soul” or “the spirit”.
b. The breath of life
i. This is described as something God personally gave to man.
ii. This is man’s life force.
c. A living being
i. The inner being is the focus here.
ii. The external is not unimportant though.
d. Made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27)
i. This is with reference to the spiritual being of man.
ii. The spirit of man is made in God’s image and this makes him distinct from animals!

《创世记 2:4-7》
4创造天地的来历，在耶和华神造天地的日子，乃是这样：
5野地还没有草木，田间的菜蔬还没有长起来，因为耶和华神还没有降雨在地上，也没有人耕地。
6但有雾气从地上腾，滋润遍地。7耶和华神用地上的尘土造人，将生气吹在他鼻孔里，他就成了有灵的活人，名叫亚当。
