Text: Genesis 18: 30-31
MEDITATION
Genesis 18:30-31
30 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there?”
So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
31 And he said, “Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there?”
So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Conscious of not overstepping
a. The LORD had been most gracious.
b. He had assented to all the pleas of Abraham.
c. He was conscious that he must not make the LORD angry.
i. He had pleaded with the LORD to spare Sodom for the sake of 50 righteous people.
ii. Then he had asked the LORD to spare the city for the sake of 45 righteous ones.
iii. He went on to ask the LORD to spare Sodom for the sake of 40.
2. Nothing to lose and much to gain
a. Would the LORD spare Sodom for the sake of 30 righteous people?
The LORD agreed to spare Sodom if 30 righteous people were found there.
b. Would the LORD still spare Sodom if 20 righteous people were found in Sodom?
Once again, the LORD assented. He would spare Sodom for the sake of 20 righteous people living in Sodom.
OUTSTANDING ATTRIBUTES OF THE LORD REVEALED
In this text, a number of attributes of the LORD stand out:
1. His grace and mercy.
2. His willingness to hear and answer prayers.
3. His lovingkindness was truly wonderful and glorious.
