MEDITATION
Genesis 17:1-2
1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.
2 And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. God speaking to Abram
a. God spoke to Abram when he was 75 years of age (Genesis 12:4).
b. God spoke to him again when he was 99 years old (Genesis 17:1).
2. Different words were given to Abram during the past 22 years
a. Promise of blessing Genesis 12
b. Promise of protection Genesis 15
c. Promise of a Covenant Genesis 15
3. The covenant of God reiterated
a. The LORD had given Abram a wonderful covenant (Genesis 15).
b. This had been solemnly confirmed (Genesis 15):
i. In worship.
ii. When the presence of God was manifested specially.
4. Abram had not been blameless
a. He went to Egypt and resorted to lying (Genesis 12).
b. He took on Hagar as his second wife (Genesis 16).
c. He did nothing when Sarai ill-treated Hagar (Genesis 16).
5. The call to improve his walk before God
a. The LORD identified Himself as “Almighty God” (Genesis 17:1).
b. Abram must walk before God blamelessly.
c. He must be more conscious of applying his faith in the LORD!
