Text: Exodus 5: 10-14
MEDITATION
Exodus 5:10-14
10 And the taskmasters of the people and their officers went out and spoke to the people, saying, “Thus says Pharaoh: ‘I will not give you straw.
11 Go, get yourselves straw where you can find it; yet none of your work will be reduced.’” 12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.
13 And the taskmasters forced them to hurry, saying, “Fulfil your work, your daily quota, as when there was straw.”
14 Also the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten and were asked, “Why have you not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as before?”
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The taskmasters and their officers
a. They spoke to the children of Israel.
b. New orders from the Pharaoh.
i. No straw would be provided.
ii. The slaves must find their own straw.
iii. But the quota must still be fulfilled.
2. The impact on the children of Israel
a. They scattered widely, seeking straw where they could.
b. When they could not find straw, they found small stones (stubble..
3. Great pressure from the Egyptians
a. They insisted that the quotas must be fulfilled.
b. As if straw had been provided.
c. It was impossible to meet such demands.
4. Beating of the Hebrew officers
a. Some were appointed as team leaders of the Hebrew slaves.
b. When quotas were not fulfilled, they were beaten by the Egyptians.
c. They were constantly harassed to fulfil their quotas.
d. The suffering of the children of Israel increased significantly.

10 督工的和官长出来对百姓说：“法老这样说：‘我不给你们草，
11 你们自己在哪里能找草，就往哪里去找吧！但你们的工一点不可减少。’”
12 于是百姓散在埃及遍地，捡碎秸当做草。
13 督工的催着说：“你们一天当完一天的工，与先前有草一样。”14 法老督工的责打他所派以色列人的官长，说：“你们昨天、今天为什么没有照向来的数目做砖，完你们的工作呢？”
