Text: Exodus 4: 18-20
MEDITATION
Exodus 4:18-20
18 So Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brethren who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.”
19 Now the LORD said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.”
20 Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Explaining things to Jethro
a. Though the text does not say very much, we are safe to assume Moses explained some things to his father-in-law, Jethro.
b. Moses asked to take leave from the home of Jethro, with whom he had lived for all these years.
c. He was planning to go Egypt to see his brethren.
d. To see whether they were still alive.
i. This was just polite family talk.
ii. Moses probably did not give too many details to Jethro.
iii. He was still struggling in his heart and mind about his mission from God.
e. Jethro showed understanding and support and gave his blessing when he said “Go in peace”.
2. A word of encouragement from the LORD
a. God gave Moses an update about the people who wanted to kill him.
b. All of them were now dead.
3. Moses and his family
a. The family now travelled to Egypt.
b. Members of the family:
i. Moses and his wife, Zipporah.
ii. They had two sons.
4. The rod of God
a. The shepherd’s staff had turned into a snake by the power of God.
b. It reminded him of God’s presence and power.
c. God had ordered Moses to bring this rod with him.

18于是，摩西回到他岳父叶忒罗那里，对他说：“求你容我回去见我在埃及的弟兄，看他们还在不在。”叶忒罗对摩西说：“你可以平平安安地去吧。”
19耶和华在米甸对摩西说：“你要回埃及去，因为寻索你命的人都死了。”20摩西就带着妻子和两个儿子，叫他们骑上驴，回埃及地去。摩西手里拿着神的杖。
