MEDITATION
Exodus 34:21-22
21 “Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; in plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.
22 “And you shall observe the Feast of Weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year’s end.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Advice about Work
a. One may choose to work six days in a week.
b. It is not wrong to plan to do a five-day week.
c. Many factors must be considered:
i. These were not listed.
ii. The circumstances and times would have to be factored in.
iii. In the days of Moses, the factors were very limited.
iv. They would not be very applicable.
2. The Seventh Day
a. This is a reference to the Sabbath.
b. This was the Fourth Commandment (Exodus 20:8).
c. This was meant to be a day of rest.
d. The word “Sabbath” highlights the essence of “rest”.
e. Even in the busy seasons:
i. Plowing
ii. Harvesting
The Sabbath Law must be observed!
f. This Law was given to protect the worker!
3. Two Feasts highlighted
a. The Feast of weeks (Pentecost)
i. It is also called “The firstfruits of wheat harvest” (Exodus 34:22).
ii. Firstfruits were to be offered to God in faith and thanksgiving.
b. The Feast of Ingathering
i. This is also called “The Feast of the Tabernacles” (Exodus 34:22).
ii. This is observed at the end of the year (Jewish).
