Exodus 23:13
13 “And in all that I have said to you, be circumspect and make no mention of the name of other gods, nor let it be heard from your mouth.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. “And in all that I have said to you”
a. Moses had said many things to the children of Israel.
b. There were many things that had to be learned:
i. About God
ii. About His commands
iii. About justice
2. Appropriate response
a. This was needed.
b. This would be wise.
3. The issue of “other gods”
a. Israel must acknowledge only one God.
b. The people of God must have no other gods.
c. The first two commandments of the Ten Commandments made this clear.
4. Practical words of advice given
a. There must be a very careful practice of this commandment in particular.
b. The word “circumspect” emphasises the need to very careful.
c. There should not be mention of other gods.
i. There should not be admiration of other gods.
ii. There should not be undue honour and attention given to idols.
iii. In fact, the names of other gods, should not be mentioned at all.
d. What would this do?
i. It would strengthen faith in God.
ii. There would be no temptation to worship other gods.
iii. It would be good and pleasing to the Lord.
