MEDITATION
Exodus 23:1-3
1“You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice.
3 You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Circulation of a false report
a. In the ancient days it was called “a false report”.
b. In modern day terms:
i. Gossip
ii. Rumours
iii. Fake news
iv. These are often lies disguised as truths.
c. We must never participate in such things.
2. Being on the witness stand
a. The wicked sometimes make use of the law courts.
b. They would use witnesses to testify on their behalf.
c. This word forbids such activities.
d. Bearing false witness is so wrong.
3. A crowd of evil doers
a. Sometimes people form a gang of evil doers.
b. They victimise the poor and needy.
c. Justice must not be perverted in any way.
d. We must always seek to uphold truth and justice.
4. Partiality
a. It is all too easy to be partial:
i. Against a minority group
ii. Against the poor
b. The poor man depends on the help of the just.
i. The righteous must stand for truth.
ii. The law was made to uphold justice.
iii. If partiality is shown, then the poor would be disadvantaged.
