MEDITATION
Exodus 19:1-3
1 In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai.
2 For they had departed from Rephidim, had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the mountain.
3 And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. The Journey from Egypt
A quick review:
a. The Wilderness of Shur to Elim (Exodus 15:22-27)
i. Bitter water made sweet.
ii. Abundance of water.
b. The Wilderness of Sin (Exodus 15-16)
i. Supply of Manna
ii. Supply of quails
c. Rephidim (Exodus 17)
i. Water from a Rock
ii. Attack by the Amalekites
d. The Wilderness of Sinai (Exodus 19)
2. God’s Word to Moses
a. God’s call to Moses to ascend the mountain of Sinai.
b. The word that he was to give to Israel.
3. God used two terms to describe the people
a. The house of Jacob
i. This phrase was used to describe Jacob before he was called Israel.
ii. The name “Jacob” meant “a heel grabber”.
iii. Jacob was very sinful.
iv. His children were wayward.
This was a fitting description of the people who came out of Egypt!
b. The children of Israel
i. Jacob went on to become a man of God.
ii. God gave him a new name, “Israel”.
iii. This describes the nobility of Israel; it means, “a prince with God”.
iv. God’s desire for His people is expressed here.
He would like them to be princely in their life and behaviour!
