Day 73

"Her rich men are full of violence"

Text: Micah 6:12

OTHER FORMS OF WICKEDNESS EXPOSED

The Lord had to address other expressions of wickedness! Evil had to be addressed directly.

“For her rich men are full of violence,
Her inhabitants have spoken lies,
And their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.”
Micah 6:12

1. “Her rich men”

a) The Lord was not against wealth.
b) He is the One who enabled Israel to be successful and wealthy (Deuteronomy 8:6-18).

2. Three problems highlighted:

a) “Full of violence”
i) Some resorted to violence to obtain wealth.
ii) They may steal or rob to obtain wealth.
iii) The weak and poor are often the victims.
b) “Lies”
i) The context of “lies” is even more sinister in a court of law.
ii) The wicked will lie and perjure themselves to take advantage of their victims.
iii) The corrupt judges would rule in the favour of the rich and powerful.
c) “Deceitful”
i) This is another sin of the tongue.
ii) Deceit is used to hoodwink the ignorant.
iii) The law is perverted.
iv) The poor suffer even more because of terrible deceit perpetrated.

3. Imagine a city filled with violence, lying and deceit

a) The rulers
b) The judges
c) The merchants

They cause the nation to anger the Lord because of wicked deeds!

THE ANGER OF THE LORD

The prophet Isaiah, the older contemporary of Micah warned of the anger of the Lord!

“For all this His anger is not turned away,
But His hand is stretched out still.”
Isaiah 9:12, 17, 21; 10:4
