"O My people, what have I done to you"

Text: Micah 6:3

THE LORD’S WORD TO HIS PEOPLE

The LORD God bared His heart to His people. The words used were full of tenderness though they were painful words of admonition as well.

“O My people, what have I done to you?
And how have I wearied you?
Testify against Me.”
Micah 6:3

1. “O My people”

a) Israel had forgotten the special honour God had bestowed on the nation.

b) Moses was the one who had sought to teach Israel how God chose them.

i) God has graciously shown His glory and greatness. Deuteronomy 5:24
ii) God had regarded them as a holy people Deuteronomy 7:6a
iii) He had chosen them to be a people for Himself Deuteronomy 7:6b
iv) A special treasure to Him above all the peoples of the earth Deuteronomy 7:6c
v) He had dearly loved them Deuteronomy 7:7-8

2. What have I done to you?

a) Had God kept His covenant commitment?
b) Had He not shown mercy?
c) Had He not loved them?
d) Had He not blessed them?
e) Had He not delivered them from their enemies many times?

3. And how have I wearied you?

a) Had God wearied them with His laws?
b) Had He wearied them with His blessings?

4. Testify against Me?

a) Israel was free to speak up.
b) The nation could arise and detail the things that they feel God had not done.
c) The nation could make a list of complaints and present them before the Lord, and before the mountains, hills and the foundations of the earth.

THERE WAS NOTHING ISRAEL COULD CHARGE GOD WITH

There truly was nothing that Israel could challenge God with! The LORD had been most gracious and merciful to the sinful nation. He was to them “God-Who-Forgives” (Psalm 99:8). Psalmist after Psalmist extolled the Lord for His many blessings on the nation (Psalms 100, 103, 145, 147 etc…).
