"I will cut off your horses from your midst"

Text: Micah 5:10

RECONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW REMNANT ISRAEL

The hope for the new Israel was exciting. But Israel must understand how God would reconstruct the new nation.

“‘And it shall be in that day,’ says the LORD,
‘That I will cut off your horses from your midst
And destroy your chariots.'”
Micah 5:10

1. “‘And it shall be in that day,’ says the LORD”

a) This would refer to the future of the new Israel God would construct.
b) “Says the LORD”
i) This was a special word God was saying to remnant Israel.
ii) It was His plan for the future for the redeemed remnant.
iii) He would be personally undertaking this task.
iv) He would ensure that His plan would be fulfilled.

2. “That I will cut off your horses from your midst and destroy your chariots”

a) This word is better understood in the context of Deuteronomy 17:14-20.
b) This was a wonderful word given to Israel concerning the kings of Israel.
c) There were certain things that the kings must not indulge in:
i) The multiplication of horses.
ii) With this word is the association of “chariots”.
iii) No returning to Egypt for that nation had developed special breeds of mighty war horses.

3. The problems that caused Israel to falter and fail

a) Dependence upon military might.
i) It led to a feeling of over-confidence in self.
ii) It led to unwise compromises with allies who were corrupt where morals were concerned.
b) Alliances with Egypt that caused the nation to compromise:
i) Its faith in the Lord.
ii) Its integrity and righteousness that were to result from obeying the word of God.

4. Cutting off reliance on human strength

a) This was God’s way of helping Israel to find revival of a strong faith.
b) Israel needs to know that all they would need is the LORD God Himself leading the nation!
